After my last post highlighting the five bonefishing destinations of Cocos Keeling Islands, Anaa Atoll, New Caledonia, Aitutaki and Fanning Island, here’s another five to savour.
But first a warning if you were planning an expedition to the very remote Penrhyn Island (Tongareva) in the Cook Islands. Ahead of the planned opening of the Cook Islands Christian Church Mission House in December 2025 that will herald a homecoming of several hundred islanders, almost half of the southern part of the lagoon between Omoka and Te Tautua has been designated a no fishing zone. This "ra'ui" will conserve fish for the celebratory feast.
For paid subscribers, here are five more locations to add to your bonefish bucket lists, including a couple of standout destinations: the biosphere reserve of Fakarava Atoll – Mother Nature’s maritime sanctuary, and Nonouti Island, an atoll of Kiribati and part of the South Gilbert Islands.
